The Pendulum - North Middleton

The Pendulum is a fell and trail running event held on 22 March 2026 in Langleeford at the base of the Cheviot Hills. The course covers approximately 11 miles and includes ascents of Hedgehope Hill and The Cheviot, with a total climb of about 3,689 ft. Entry is open to people aged 18 or older.

The organiser provides a marked route, marshals, a timed race bib, and a GPX file of the route in advance. There is a water station at the halfway point and the event is supported and overseen by mountain rescue. Finishers receive a medal and there are prizes for the first three male and female finishers. The organiser allows a cut off of three hours to reach the halfway point, which covers the climb of The Cheviot and return; competitors who meet that cut off may continue to Hedgehope Hill.

Recommended kit includes trail shoes, waterproofs, a whistle, hat and gloves. The event village will operate with cash only due to limited mobile signal in the valley. Parking in the valley is limited and car sharing is encouraged. In the unlikely case of snow or ice preventing access to the start location the event will be postponed rather than cancelled. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
