The Pendulum 2026

The Pendulum is a fell running event located in Langleeford, situated at the base of the two highest peaks in the Cheviot Hills. The course covers a total distance of 11 miles and features a significant elevation gain of 3689ft. Participants are required to navigate and summit both Hedgehope Hill and The Cheviot in succession.

The event is organized by Northern Fell Running Events Ltd and is limited to 150 runners. Participants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the race. A cut-off time of 3 hours is implemented for reaching the halfway point after climbing The Cheviot; runners who meet this requirement may proceed to Hedgehope Hill.

Course and Safety

The route is well-marked and includes a water station at the halfway mark. Professional marshals and a tail runner are present throughout the event, with safety oversight provided by mountain rescue. Recommended equipment for all participants includes trail shoes, waterproof clothing, a whistle, a hat, and gloves. Runners will receive a GPX file of the route prior to the event.

Event Village and Amenities

An event village is available for participants after the race. Due to the lack of mobile signal in the valley, any stalls at the event village operate on a cash-only basis. Finisher medals are awarded to those who provide the bespoke wristbands collected from both the Cheviot and Hedgehope summits. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Limited parking is available in the valley, and the organizers encourage car sharing. No dogs are permitted at this event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
