The Pathfinder is a self-navigated challenge run or walk on Sunday 12 October 2025 from Commondale Village Hall, Commondale, North Yorkshire YO21 2HG. The event offers two distances:

  • 15 miles
  • 25 miles

The route crosses the North Yorkshire Moors and uses old drover tracks, moorland tracks and some road. Grid references for each checkpoint will be sent to participants. The event is open to walkers and runners. Minimum age is 12 years; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The maximum time limit for both courses is ten hours. This year there is a maximum of 100 participants. Entry fees listed are £10 for under 16s and £30 for adults.

Logistics, safety and finish

A kit check and registration will take place before the event. Minimum required kit includes a waterproof jacket and trousers (taped seams), hat and gloves, 500 ml fluid and emergency food, a map (OL26 or equivalent), a working compass, whistle, first aid kit, head torch (long route only), bivvy bag and foil blanket, and a soft cup. There will be minimal refreshments (cake, sweets, crisps) and water at two checkpoints, plus water at two further checkpoints. Finishers receive a choice of a cloth badge or a medal and a certificate. Dogs are welcome on leads but are not allowed on the start/finish site; please park off site. Take on winter trails through Dalby Forest with 10km, half marathon and marathon options that wind through towering trees and moorland. Canicross friendly, with a bespoke medal, post race snacks and a welcoming atmosphere.

Test your winter trail legs on the Hardmoors 30, a scenic 30 mile coastal route from Robin Hood's Bay with about 3,400 ft of ascent and an 11 hour limit. Limited to 200 runners, it mixes rugged coastal paths and staffed aid stations.
