The 5 miles route starts at the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton, follows the Teesdale Way through Preston Park and finishes at Locomotion, Eaglescliffe. That course comprises about 1.5 miles on road and 3.5 miles on track.

Neither route is suitable for standard prams; only prams designed for cross country use are acceptable. Both events are dog friendly. Minimum age is 10 years; participants aged 10 to 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Northern Rail provides free use of the Eaglescliffe Station car park for competitors and supporters and offers free rail travel from Eaglescliffe to Thornaby for 5 mile runners to facilitate a car-at-base start. Proceeds support the Great North Air Ambulance and the Motor Neurone Disease Association, with 50% of event receipts donated to MND. All finishers receive medals and trophies are awarded to male and female winners. Sponsors include Grand Central, Northern Rail and TransPennine.
