Locomotion Trail Runs

The Locomotion Trail Runs marks the 201st anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and highlights local engineering history. The event offers two route options that use parts of the original railway route near Locomotion in Eaglescliffe.

Distances

  • 10 miles partly along the original railway route
  • 5 miles partly along the original railway route

The 10 mile course begins at Locomotion, Station Road, Eaglescliffe, goes through Preston Park, follows the Teesdale Way to the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton and returns to Locomotion. The 10 mile course is approximately 3 miles on road and 7 miles on track. The 5 mile course starts at the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton, follows the Teesdale Way through Preston Park and finishes at Locomotion, with about 1.5 miles on road and 3.5 miles on track.

Proceeds are shared between the Great North Air Ambulance and the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Raffle prizes include pairs of first class rail tickets and a conducted tour and tea at the House of Commons. All finishers receive medals and trophies are awarded to male and female winners.

Practical notes: the routes are not suitable for standard prams, both events are dog friendly, and the minimum age is 10 years. Competitors aged 10 to 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Northern Rail has provided free use of the Eaglescliffe Station car park and free rail tickets for 5 mile runners travelling from Eaglescliffe to Thornaby. The event is organised by the Locomotion Hotel with support from local organisations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
