Locomotion Trail Runs
The Locomotion Trail Runs commemorate the 201st anniversary of the S&DR railway and regional engineering history. The charity event is centred at Locomotion in Eaglescliffe and follows sections of the original railway route and the Teesdale Way.
Available distances:
- 10 miles
- 5 miles
The 10 miles route starts at Locomotion on Station Road, runs through Preston Park, continues on the Teesdale Way to the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton and returns to Locomotion. The stated surface mix for this route is approximately 3 miles on road and 7 miles on track. The 5 miles route starts at the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton, follows the Teesdale Way through Preston Park and finishes at Locomotion, with about 1.5 miles on road and 3.5 miles on track.
Proceeds are allocated to the Great North Air Ambulance and the Motor Neurone Disease Association, with a portion of event receipts designated for the MND cause. Organisers and sponsors provide event support, parking, and transport arrangements; free use of Eaglescliffe Station car park is offered to competitors and supporters. Free rail travel from Eaglescliffe to Thornaby is available for 5 miles entrants as part of the start logistics.
Additional event details include a finishers raffle with rail ticket prizes, medals for all finishers, and trophies for male and female winners. Neither route is suitable for standard prams; specially designed cross country prams only. Both events are dog friendly. Participants must be aged 10 or older, and those aged 10 to 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
