Hardmoors 60

The Hardmoors 60 is an ultramarathon covering a distance of 63 miles along the Cleveland Coast. The route begins at Guisborough Rugby Club and follows the Cleveland Way to the seaside resort of Filey. Participants traverse a variety of coastal landscapes, including cliff tops, fishing villages, and coastal resorts. The course passes through several locations such as Saltburn, Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar, and Scarborough.

The event features a total ascent of approximately 2500 m (8202 ft). Competitors must complete the course within a strictly enforced 18 hour cut-off time. Checkpoints are located at various intervals, including:

  • 101 km (total distance)
  • Relay option (2-4 runners)

A mandatory kit list is in effect, requiring all runners to carry items such as a waterproof jacket with taped seams, two headtorches with spare batteries, a survival bag, a foil blanket, and hard-copy maps of the route. There is a kit check at registration, and missing items will prevent participation.

Support is managed through multiple manned checkpoints and specific water stations. The organizers do not provide plastic cups, so participants must bring their own for both cold and hot drinks. Competitors may use two non-returnable drop bags, which are accessible at Runswick Bay (21 miles) and Ravenscar (40 miles).

The race includes a tracking service for safety and progress monitoring. A coach service is available for a fee to transport runners from the finish in Filey to the start in Guisborough on the morning of the event. Participation is limited to 350 solo runners and 50 relay teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
