Teams must consist of at least three people and may include up to 25 members. Teams must remain together throughout the course and are encouraged to assist other teams. Participants have up to six hours to complete the course as a team; completion is measured by getting all teammates to finish or to progress as far as possible in the allotted time. There is no official timekeeping; participants may bring their own watches.

The course requires movement by leg and hand power and includes jumping, climbing, mud crawling, swinging, steep hills and ravines, plus two swimming obstacles. For swimming obstacles, participants must swim about 150 meters while wearing a personal flotation device. PFDs are provided or may be supplied by participants. Teams must carry an egg during the run; eggs are provided by the organizer.

Age and pricing details are published for both the Ozark Scramble and the Scrambled-Over-Easy events. Youth participation rules include adult supervision requirements and restrictions for water obstacles for the youngest children. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
