Lion King Backyard Ultra takes place in Rolla, Missouri at Lions Club Park. It uses 4.167-mile (6.706 km) laps that must be completed within one hour. The course combines a dirt daytime loop with a paved nighttime loop, winding around a lake through woods.

It is open-ended: the last runner to finish a lap wins, crowned Lion King or Queen with a belt buckle and bronze coin; top male, top female, and the assist are inducted into a Hall of Fame, while others receive ribbons.
