3 Legged Monster Race : August 15, 2026

The 3 Legged Monster Race is a team relay for two on the Ozark Trail within the Mark Twain National Forest near Steelville and Leasburg, Missouri. The event combines three sequential legs: trail running, mountain biking and paddling, each completed by one teammate before handing off to the other.

The running leg follows Ozark Trail stretches to Bass' River Resort through hardwood forests, bluff overlooks, mossy rocks and seasonal waterfalls. The mountain biking leg traverses timbered oak and pine stands, singletrack and gravel sections and is designated as an IMBA "epic" ride. The paddling leg follows Courtois and Huzzah Creeks before merging onto the Meramec River and arriving at the finish on an eastern gravel bar.

  • 55 miles two-person relay
  • 33 miles two-person relay

Course options break the relay into run, bike and paddle segments. Short and long course options specify run distances of 7 or 13 miles, mountain bike sections around 11 to 30 miles depending on course, and a paddling section of about 12 miles.

Logistics note that there are two start locations: runners at Ozark Outdoors Riverfront Resort and mountain bikers at Bass' River Resort. Paddles are provided by Bass' River Resort. Limited cell service is expected on course. Aid stations provide water and medical support at specified mile points. Proceeds benefit the Ozark Trail Association, a 501c(3) organization. A backyard ultra at Lions Club Park in Rolla, MO featuring repeated 4.167 miles (6.706 km) loops. The last runner to complete one more loop than the next is crowned Lion King or Queen; proceeds partly support the 988 hotline and the park.

A point to point ultramarathon of about 101 miles on the Ozark Trail through the Mark Twain National Forest, featuring fixed trail markers, 13 aid stations, varied terrain and about 12,000 feet of elevation gain.

A Last Man Standing backyard ultra at Missouri Freedom Camp in Bourbon, MO on June 5, 2027. Runners complete repeated 4 miles 880 feet loops each hour, with aid at the barn, camping and a pre-race dinner; proceeds benefit Freedom 13.
