Event Format
The 3 Legged Monster Race is a relay event for teams of two. Each team completes three consecutive disciplines: trail running, mountain biking, and paddling.
Course Details
There are two relay course options, designated by total mileage.
- 55M 2 Per Relay (Long Course): A 13-mile trail run, a 30-mile mountain bike ride, and a 12-mile paddle.
- 33M 2 Per Relay (Short Course): A 7-mile trail run, an 11-mile mountain bike ride, and a 12-mile paddle.
The event takes place on the Ozark Trail and surrounding waterways within the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri. The running and mountain biking portions travel through forested areas with features like bluff overlooks and seasonal waterfalls. The mountain bike route for the long course includes a section of the Berryman Trail. The final paddling leg travels down Courtois Creek, Huzzah Creek, and the Meramec River.
Logistics & Notes
The event uses two primary locations: Ozark Outdoors Riverfront Resort near Leasburg (run start/finish) and Bass’ River Resort near Steelville (bike start/paddle start). A shuttle is required for the short course. Paddles are provided for all teams; participants are asked not to bring their own. All proceeds from the event go to the Ozark Trail Association.
