Freedom Backyard Ultra Marathon 2027

The Freedom Backyard Ultra Marathon is a Last Man Standing event held at Missouri Freedom Camp in Bourbon, MO, at 5992 Highway C. The course is a measured loop of 4 miles 880 feet (about 6.7056 kilometers) that must be used for each lap. The loop runs through undulating Midwest terrain with rolling hills, creek crossings, fields, short gravel sections, rocky and root-covered areas, and roughly half the course in wooded, shaded trail. Many wooded sections are technical and most trails are wide enough for UTVs.

The event follows Backyard Ultra rules. Each lap begins on a precise hourly schedule and must be completed in less than an hour to count. Competitors must be inside the starting corral at the bell and must start with the field. Except for restroom breaks, competitors may not leave the course during a lap. No personal aid is allowed during a lap and no non-competitors are permitted on the course. The winner is the last person to complete a lap while no other participant can complete one additional lap.

Facilities and services are centered at the barn next to the farmhouse. The main aid station at the barn provides water, food, drinks, and supplements for the duration of the event, and there is a small water point on course. Onsite camping is available and hotels are approximately 15 minutes away in Sullivan, MO. Race shirts are provided to entrants who register before May 5; registrations after that date are not guaranteed a shirt. There are no refunds and all proceeds are donated to the Freedom 13 organization, which supports recreational camps and services for veterans and police families.
