The Long Run - The Running Kind
The Long Run is a trail running event at Jacobsburg State Park, with the start and finish at the park Equestrian Parking Lot near the Sobers Run trailhead. The event is built around a give-or-take loop of about 5 miles that uses single track and gravel trails and has roughly 450 feet of elevation change. Two editions are held each year: Spring Forward uses the original course direction (counterclockwise) and Fall Back runs the course in reverse.
Race formats and logistics
- 5 Mile
- 3 Hour
- 6 Hour
Participants choose one event. The 5 Mile is a single loop; the 3 Hour and 6 Hour formats allow completing as many loops as possible within the allotted time, and a lap only counts if finished before the event cutoff. The event is cupless: runners must bring their own hydration; coolers will be available to refill bottles. The 3H and 6H competitors may use a personal aid bin or bucket under 30 gallons placed near the start/finish. The event is self-supported, accepts unlimited crew or support on race day, and is spectator friendly.
All finishers receive a race finisher pin; sustainable medals are awarded to the top three in male, female, and non-binary categories. The organizers run the event as zero carbon, include a small registration fee to offset participants' travel emissions, and collect monetary and item donations for local and charitable causes. Course maps are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
