Blackout - Event overview

Blackout is a nighttime trail event organized by The Running Kind in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. The event features a single race distance:

The course is on South Mountain and is described as technical and mountainous. The route includes over 1000 ft of vertical gain and is held on trails at night.

Location, support and awards

The event meeting area is Klines Lane Parking Lot, 101 Klines Ln, Emmaus, PA 18049. The race is self supported with no aid stations on course. Water and electrolyte mix will be available at the start/finish area; participants are asked to bring their own hydration pack. The event is cupless and plant-based aid will be provided by Gnarly Nutrition.

Awards are given to the top male, female, and non-binary finishers. All finishers receive a race finisher pin. The organizer will donate to Wildlands Conservancy and will add a $1 registration fee to offset carbon emissions for participant travel through a Native Energy project. A last-person-standing backyard ultra on a 3.4-mile, 350+ ft elevation trail loop at South Mountain Preserve, with a chip-timed nighttime Blackout loop, zero carbon measures, and community donation programs.

Test your endurance on a 2 mile paved loop at the Rodale Park 12 Hour Challenge. Cycle, run, or walk to support the development of the September 11th National Memorial Trail.

A 10k trail race in Nolde Forest near Reading, PA, using an age graded head start so top age group performers can compete for overall places. Entry is limited to 250 runners and part of the proceeds support forest maintenance.

Trail races at Coventry Woods Park on June 28, 2026 include 5K, 10K, timed 3 hour and 6 hour events plus a 6 hour team relay. Courses are mostly single track with notable elevation and on-course aid stations.
