Course, logistics and services

The course follows canal towpaths and is described as non-technical. Organizers plan to run on the Pennsylvania side of the river for 2025, with an alternative course that would use a hybrid of New Jersey and Pennsylvania towpaths. The event includes aid stations and time cutoffs for each distance. Runners who finish within the allotted times receive a custom MuleSkinner medal and a MuleSkinner technical running shirt. The top three men and top three women in each distance receive separate awards. The last finisher of the 50 mile race who finishes within the allotted time will receive the Stubborn Mule Award.

Local lodging options include bed-and-breakfasts and short-term rentals in nearby towns. Onsite tent camping is available the night before at Tinicum Park, about 100 yards from the start and finish; these sites are not for RVs. A portion of registration fees will be donated to local preservation nonprofits, including the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. Volunteers receive race credit for future registrations.
