Kingwood Ultras

Kingwood Ultras is a trail running event held at Horseshoe Bend Park near Frenchtown, New Jersey. The course is a two mile loop that winds through woods and open field, crosses small streams, and uses quaint wooden bridges. Base Camp sits beside the loop so runners return to the same central area every lap.

Key distance and timed formats include:

  • 100 Mile
  • 50 Mile
  • 48 Hour
  • 24 Hour
  • 12 Hour
  • 6 Hour
  • Marathon
  • 10K

The trail surface is quasi-technical, with roots and rocks underfoot and about 300 feet of elevation gain per lap. Nighttime routing is marked with glow sticks and reflective ribbons, and mileage markers appear every quarter mile. The short-loop format lets runners manage pacing, fueling, and gear without long transfers.

Support is centered on one Base Camp aid station visible every two miles. Aid offerings range from standard ultra fare such as fruit, cookies, candy, chips, PB&J, potatoes, water, sports drink, and soda to served breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each registered runner receives a 10 foot by 10 foot Base Camp space near parking and porta-potties; limited indoor-style sleeping cots are available first come, first served. The event is cup free, so runners must bring their own bottle, cup, or hydration pack.

Finishers receive handcrafted wood based awards, and long distance finishers may receive reclaimed wood buckles. A portion of registration fees supports Friends of Horseshoe Bend Park. The event is organized by Spirit Trips. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
