Kingwood Ultras

Kingwood Ultras is a loop-based trail event held at Horseshoe Bend Park, about three miles from Frenchtown, New Jersey. The course is a two-mile circuit that passes through woods and open field, crosses small streams, and uses wooden bridges, keeping Base Camp close to the action.

The trail is quasi-technical with roots and rocks underfoot; trail shoes are recommended. Each lap includes about 300 feet of elevation gain. The short-loop format returns runners to a central aid area every two miles. At night the route is marked with glow sticks and reflective ribbons, and mileage markers appear every quarter mile.

Support centers on one main Base Camp aid station visible each lap. Aid offerings include fruit, cookies, candy, chips, PB&J, potatoes, water, sports drink, soda, and hot meals served throughout the weekend. Every registered runner receives a 10 by 10 foot Base Camp space located along the course, with nearby parking and porta-potties. Limited indoor-style sleeping cots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is cup-free so runners must bring their own bottle, cup, or hydration pack.

Finishers receive one-of-a-kind wood-based awards and longer-distance milestone finishers may receive handcrafted belt buckles made from reclaimed course wood. A portion of registration fees supports Friends of Horseshoe Bend Park.
