Boulder Field Ultra

The Boulder Field Ultra is a set of trail races held at Hickory Run State Park in Jim Thorpe, PA on September 12, 2026. The event uses Sand Spring Lake Pavilion in Albrightsville as the start area and limits the field to 400 total runners and hikers.

Distances offered:

  • 100K
  • 50K
  • 18 Miler

The course is a figure-8 shaped 50K loop contained entirely within the state park; 100K entrants complete the loop twice. About 90% of the route is single track and multi-use trail, with roughly 1 mile of gravel road per loop. Elevation gain is approximately 4,000 feet per 50K loop. Two short but very difficult sections are highlighted: the roughly 1-mile Shades of Death trail and a sub-1-mile boulder field crossing.

Aid stations are positioned along each course. Provided items include Gatorade, water, snacks, and carbohydrate foods; participants are advised to carry at least 16 ounces of fluid. The 18 Miler and 50K include hiker-friendly time limits; the 100K consists of two loops with its own time limit structure.

Every finisher receives a custom award. Overall awards are given to the top three male and female finishers, and age group awards are given for several categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
