The Guv'nor Frozen 50
The Guv'nor Frozen 50 is a winter trail running event held Dec 5, 2026 at Governor Dodge State Park, Twin Valley Picnic Area, Dodgeville, WI. The event offers multiple distance options and courses that use park trails, prairies and horse paths.
Distances include:
- 50K: 31.4 miles, two loops, about 4475 ft elevation gain
- 25K: 15.8 miles, one loop, about 2276 ft elevation gain
- 15K: 9.3 miles, one loop, about 1282 ft elevation gain
Terrain is a mix of horse trail, dirt single and double track, and prairie path. Aid stations are positioned on course; the 50K has multiple stations visited more than once. Twin Valley and Cox Hollow have designated crewing spaces and Twin Valley hosts a drop bag tent for the 50K. The event is cup-less so participants must carry their own hydration vessel. If substantial snow limits access, organizers will use a shorter loop format with additional laps for the longer distances.
Safety notes and procedures are in place: hunting is in progress during the event so highly visible orange clothing is requested; medical or event personnel may remove participants if conditions are unsafe; extreme weather may lead to cancellation or alteration. A portion of proceeds supports the Driftless Trail project through the Driftless Area Land Conservancy.
Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers in each distance and the first place non-binary finisher; age group results are listed but there are no age group awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
