New Glarus Woods Trail Run - August 15, 2026

The event is the 7th annual New Glarus Woods Trail Run at New Glarus Woods State Park. It is part of the Savanna Trail Run Series and proceeds benefit the Friends of New Glarus Woods State Park. Parking is at New Glarus High School with a shuttle and bag drop to the park day-use area. Registration pickup takes place in the park.

The main course begins and ends at the day-use area and follows park trails that include the Basswood Trail, the Spur Trail, and the Bison Trail into a prairie section. The route climbs above the prairie on a former farm road and continues on wide forested trails. Water is available on course; runners pass the water station twice on each lap. The 8K is one loop; 16K runners complete two laps of that loop. Optional social runs are scheduled on some dates to familiarize runners with the route.

Distances:

• 16K - two laps of the 8K loop, passes water station twice per lap
• 8K - one loop, finishes at the day-use area
• 5K - same start/finish area, mixed terrain, not flat
• 1K Kids - free kids course at the day-use area, shorter route

The 8K and 16K races are open to runners 14 and up. Awards are given to top overall men and women and to top M/F in age groups 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. The 16K also includes a Consistency Award for the most even pace. Adult race registration opens 5/1/2026 and closes 6/30/2026; the kids 1K registration closes 8/13/2026.
