New Glarus Woods Trail Run
The New Glarus Woods Trail Run takes place in New Glarus Woods State Park and is part of the Savanna Trail Run Series. The event features several distances held on the park's trail system, with proceeds supporting the Friends of New Glarus Woods State Park.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 16 km trail run consisting of two loops.
- 8 km trail run consisting of one loop.
- 5 km trail run on hilly terrain.
- 1 mile free fun run for children.
The 8 km and 16 km course begins in the day-use area and enters the woods via the Basswood Trail. Runners descend the Spur trail to the Bison Trail prairie before climbing back up a former farm road. The route follows wide forested trails to complete a loop. Participants in the 16 km event pass through the start-finish line to begin a second lap, encountering a water station twice during each circuit.
Top overall male and female finishers in the 8 km and 16 km races receive awards. Age group awards are also provided for categories ranging from 14-19 to 70+. Additionally, a Consistency Award is presented to the 16 km runner who maintains the most even pace throughout both laps. The 8 km and 16 km races are open to participants aged 14 and older. The children's 1 mile run takes place on a mountain bike trail and is untimed.
Parking is located at New Glarus High School, with a shuttle bus or walking access available to reach the park. There is no registration available on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
