Run the Hawk Trail Runs
Run the Hawk Trail Runs take place at Blackhawk Ski Club in Middleton, WI. The main events are multi-hour looped challenges where participants complete as many full laps as possible on a 2.25 mile loop. Each lap includes about 367 ft of elevation gain, a steep climb with a 20 percent grade over one tenth of a mile, downhill switchbacks, and a mix of grass paths and single track. Notable course features include tall pines, boardwalks, a natural spring pool with a rope swing, and running under a 60 meter ski jump.
The event format and options include:
- 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour endurance
- Team relay, 2 to 4 people
- Trail Mix Fun Run, 1.7 miles
Rules clarify lap counting and final-lap procedures: a full loop counts only when the start line is crossed, participants must notify the checkpoint if they drop, and the final loop must be started at least 15 minutes before the time cutoff for that entry. Placings are by number of laps, with ties decided by final-lap clock time. Pacers and on-course aid are not permitted; all aid carried by the participant.
Support at the checkpoint includes a staffed aid station with food and hydration, a drop bag area, reserved tent plots, restrooms at the start and on course, and medical support from ski patrol. A portion of proceeds and donations benefit Blackhawk Ski Club youth programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
