Run the Hawk Trail Runs

Run The Hawk is a multi-format trail running event held at Blackhawk Ski Club in Middleton, WI on August 22, 2026. The event offers solo and team relay options alongside a shorter fun run, all using looped courses on the ski hill.

The main challenge uses a 2.25 mile loop with about 345 feet of elevation gain per lap. Terrain is roughly half grass paths and half single-track. The loop includes one major climb with steep sections up to about 20 percent grade, downhill switchbacks, boardwalks, stands of tall pines, a natural spring pool with a rope swing, and a section beneath the ski jump.

Competition format and rules require participants to complete as many full loops as possible within their chosen time block. A lap counts only if the runner crosses the start line for that lap. Participants may stop at any time and will be scored on completed laps; they must notify the checkpoint if they drop. Ties are broken by clock time on the final lap. Pacers, crewing, and on-course aid are not allowed; all aid must be carried. Team relays require every team member to run at least one lap and exchanges must occur inside the checkpoint area so they can be recorded.

Support at the checkpoint includes a staffed aid station with food and hydration, a drop bag tent, reserved 10 by 10 foot tent plots, restrooms at the start and two on course, and medical support from ski patrol. The event is cupless so participants must provide their own hydration vessel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
