The Georgia Death Race is a trail running event in Blairsville, Georgia, covering about 74 miles from Byron Herbert Reece Farm to Amicalola Falls State Park. The course includes approximately 16,000 ft of climbing and 16,000 ft of descent. Runners are required to carry a 1 lb railroad spike for the duration of the race; finishers throw the spike into a coffin and receive an engraved spike. The race is a Western States qualifier: finishing in under 24 hours earns one entry ticket to the Western States Endurance Run lottery. The 2026 race is listed as sold out and a waitlist is open until 6/1/25.
Key rules and logistics
Total race cutoff is 25 hours, with hard cutoffs at aid stations along the course. Pacers are not allowed. All 2026 entrants must either log a minimum of six volunteer hours at a trail race or trail maintenance project, or pay a $20 fee to be donated to specified trail organizations; volunteer hours or payment must be submitted by race day using a signed form. Packet pickup is held at Amicalola Lodge the Friday night before the race. Registration includes a hat and a pint glass; additional merchandise can be purchased.
