Assault on Yonah Mountain

Cleveland, United States • 26 Sep 2026

Event Overview

The Assault on Yonah Mountain is an event held annually on the last Sunday in September. Participants run, hike, or ruck approximately 2.5 miles from the bottom to the top of Yonah Mountain, gaining 1,650 vertical feet.

Course and Timing

Participants are only timed from the bottom to the summit. There is no timed race back down. The route begins on a gravel driveway, climbs to a trailhead, and proceeds onto single-track trail. The climb is divided into bottom, middle, and top sections, all gaining significant elevation. The middle section is noted for being steep and technical, with rocky areas. The event has a total time limit of 2 hours 15 minutes, with a cutoff at the first overlook/old helipad of 1 hour 15 minutes.

Divisions and Requirements

The event includes a 2.5-mile run/hike and a Ruck Division. For the Ruck Division, participants must carry a minimum weight: 15 pounds for women and 20 pounds for men.

Safety and Preparation

The organizer states the event is not recommended for those not in shape, elderly, or who pose a fall risk. Participants must get themselves back down the mountain under their own power. Grippy trail shoes are highly recommended, especially in wet conditions. The trail includes non-technical sections, gravel road, and rocky, technical areas.

Awards and Finisher Items

All finishers receive a medal, with a registration deadline of September 15 to guarantee one. The top three male and female finishers receive a custom handmade award. Event shirts can be purchased separately by August 30 and must be picked up in person. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
