24 Hours at Lake Z

This is a timed trail event held at Lake Zwerner in Dahlonega, GA on September 5, 2026. The course is a 4.63 mile lollipop loop with roughly 700 feet of climbing per loop. Terrain includes rocky and rooty sections, steep climbs and descents, runnable ridge lines, and a few water crossings.

Race formats include:

  • 6 hour race
  • 12 hour race
  • 24 hour race

There will be one fully stocked aid station at the start and finish offering water, sports drink, pretzels, bananas, oranges, peanut butter and jelly, and homemade foods available throughout the event. Bathroom facilities at the start and finish will be Port O Johns.

Race rules require that no pacers are allowed and that headlamps are worn for overnight running because the course has no lights. Only laps completed with a timing chip are credited and there is no credit for partial laps. Race bibs must be worn and visible. Participants should notify event staff if they abandon the race before the finish time.

Crew support is permitted along the gravel road between the gate entrance at Highway 52 and the start and finish area; there will be no power available. Local lodging options include chain hotels, boutique hotels, bed and breakfast inns, and short term rentals. Weather in September can be hot and humid with afternoon pop up storms possible.
