Bryre Dragon

The Bryre Dragon, formerly called Baby Dragon, is a trail running event at Vogel State Park near Blairsville, GA. It is organized as an H9-HAE event and includes three separate races that use the Duncan Ridge and nearby trails.

  • 100 mile Bryre Dragon 100 mile race
  • 40 mile Bryre Dragon 40 mile race
  • 40 km Bryre Dragon Egg 40K out-and-back to Mulky Gap

The course is roughly a 40 mile lap that combines the Coosa Loop, the Duncan Ridge Trail, a short section of the Benton Mackaye Trail, and a few miles of Forest Service road. The route is mostly out-and-back with an outbound river crossing at Wolf Creek and an inbound approach on Forest Service Roads 108 and 107 to Burnett Gap. By East Coast standards the trails are not very technical but they include considerable elevation gain.

Support points are located at Vogel State Park, Fire Pit, Fish Gap and Skeenah Gap, with Mulky Gap added for the 40K once set up. The event uses intermediate cutoffs at course landmarks and final time limits for each race: 50 hours for the 100 mile race, 22 hours for the 40 mile race, and 12.5 hours for the 40 km race. Check in and race operations are based at the Group Shelter the evening before each race. Volunteers may receive credit toward future race entries.
