Bryre Dragon (formerly Baby Dragon) : Blairsville, GA

Bryre Dragon is an H9 Events trail running event held at Vogel State Park near Blairsville, GA. The event comprises three race distances:

  • 100 mile race on the full Duncan Ridge course
  • 40 mile race completing a single 40 mile lap
  • 40 km Dragon Egg out and back to Mulky Gap

The 40 mile lap uses the Coosa Loop, Duncan Ridge Trail, a short section of the Benton Mackaye Trail, and portions of Forest Service road. The outbound route crosses Wolf Creek; the inbound route uses Forest Service Roads 108 and 107 to reach Burnett Gap. Trails have considerable elevation gain though they are described as not highly technical by regional standards.

Race formats include intermediate cutoffs and overall completion limits: the 100 mile format provides an extended completion window, the 40 mile format has a 22 hour limit, and the 40 km format allows about 12.5 hours with no nighttime running. Support locations on the course include Vogel State Park Group Shelter, Fire Pit, Fish Gap, Skeenah Gap, and Mulky Gap when available. Vogel will offer hot food, drinks, and nearby restrooms. Check-in and the start and finish are located at the Group Shelter; check-in occurs the evening before each race. Volunteers receive credit toward future race entries.
