The Bull Mountain Epic
The Bull Mountain Epic is a trail running event in Dahlonega, GA held on the Jake and Bull Mountain Trail system. The event offers two distances and uses three distinct loops of roughly ten miles each.
Distances
- 50K: complete each loop once, about 5,000 feet of total elevation gain.
- Half Marathon: one loop over Bull Mountain plus additional double track to reach the distance.
Each ten mile loop passes the main aid station and the start/finish area. The trails are mostly runnable single track with some technical sections. Trail features include waterfalls, multiple stream crossings, rocky climbs, and fast descents.
Organizers provide three aid stations stocked with vegetarian friendly options such as soups, fruits, some hot foods in the evening, standard aid station fare, and volunteer specialties served through the final finishers. The event enforces a 12 hour overall cut off; 50K runners must be on loop three by 4pm. Pacers are not allowed.
Access to the Bull Mountain parking lot is via Forest Service Road 83. Recent rainfall has created washouts, large ruts, and potholes that can be difficult for low clearance vehicles; deep ruts are easier to traverse at an angle. The road is expected to be dry aside from potholes, and extra time to make the drive is advised. Registration closes Friday, Oct 2 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
