The Bull Mountain Epic

The Bull Mountain Epic is a trail running event in Dahlonega, GA held on the Jake and Bull Mountain Trail System. Distances offered include:

  • 50K: complete each of the three approximately 10 mile loops; 5000 feet total elevation gain.
  • Half Marathon: run one loop up and over Bull Mountain plus some double track.

The course is composed of three different loops of roughly 10 miles each. Runners pass the main aid station and the start/finish area after each loop. The trails include some technical sections but are mostly runnable single track. Notable trail features include waterfalls, multiple stream crossings, rocky climbs and fast descents.

There are three aid stations stocked with vegetarian friendly options: soups, fruits, some hot foods prepared in the evening, standard aid station fare, and volunteer specialties available until the last finisher. Pacers are not allowed. The event has a 12 hour cut off; 50K runners must be on loop three by 4pm.

The organizer notes access issues on Forest Service Road 83 due to washouts, large ruts and holes that may be difficult for low clearance vehicles. The road is expected to be dry other than potholes; drivers are advised to approach deep ruts at an angle. Registration closes the day before the event.
