The Drop - Winchester

The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge taking place at Cadence at The Handlebar Cafe - Garnier Road Car Park, Winchester SO23 9PA on 26 April 2026. Participants are taken to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre on foot; there are no markers, no route, and no navigational aids.

At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and any navigational aids. In exchange they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration. Deployment is by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; when blindfolds are removed the challenge begins and each person is responsible for their own route choice.

Distances offered:

  • 15 miles: original longer Drop, dropped 15 miles as the crow flies.
  • 10 miles: shorter option with the same rules and deployment.
  • 6 miles: open only to non-locals, dropped six miles as the crow flies.

Key rules include no GPS unless the device is sealed in the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal. Live GPS trackers are available optionally for shared tracking; trackers must be returned or a replacement fee of £175 applies. Entrants must be aged 18 or over on the event date.
