Format and rules

Participants must hand over all electronic devices, watches and navigational aids at registration. These items are sealed in an emergency bag which must remain intact; breaking the seal leads to disqualification. No unauthorised maps, no GPS use, no compasses and no outside help are permitted. Blindfolds are used during transit and can be replaced with blackout safety goggles or an agreed alternative.

Safety and logistics

Live GPS tracking is available as an optional, paid feature and is not included in the entry fee. Trackers are stated to be accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings and signal black spots; trackers must be returned after the event or a £175 replacement fee applies. There is no parking at the venue; parking is available in the town centre. The nearest railway station is about a 10 minute walk and the bus station about a 5 minute walk from the event HQ. Night orienteering in Brockenhurst: a 60 minute score event in the New Forest. Visit as many controls as you can for points using SIAC timing and waterproof maps, and bring high visibility clothing and lights for after dark navigation.
