The Drop - Winchester

The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge held from an event centre at Cadence at The Handlebar Cafe, Garnier Road Car Park, Winchester SO23 9PA. Participants are blindfolded and transported to an undisclosed drop location; when blindfolds are removed the clock starts and each person must make their own way back on foot.

Registration requires handing over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In exchange participants receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration; breaking the seal results in disqualification.

Three distance options are offered:

  • 6 miles as the crow flies, strictly for non locals only
  • 10 miles as the crow flies
  • 15 miles as the crow flies

Distances are measured as the crow flies; actual routes will be significantly longer. Rules include no GPS use unless devices are sealed in the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, and on foot travel only. Entries for the 6 mile option may be checked to verify eligibility.

An optional live GPS tracker is available for safety and viewing; trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee applies. There is no parking at the venue; public transport and town centre parking are noted nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
