The Big Pilgrimage - 15 Mile & Marathon

The Big Pilgrimage is a point to point mixed terrain running event that follows the start of a newly discovered pilgrim trail called The Old Way. The route begins at Mayflower Park in Southampton and follows coastal and countryside trails to two separate finish locations: the 15 Mile course finishes at the medieval ruins of Titchfield Abbey and the Marathon finishes in the grounds of Boundary Oak School near Wickham.

Runners pass several pilgrimage landmarks including Netley Castle, Netley Abbey, The Chapel at Royal Victoria Country Park and Titchfield Abbey. At each landmark participants collect a sticker to create a collectable race bib.

A short boat crossing forms part of the course. At Hamble foreshore runners may take a bag of sweets and then board a small vessel for a brief crossing of the Hamble River to Warsash before continuing along the coast to Titchfield Haven.

Coach transport to the start is available to pre booked entrants from the finish locations for a fee of £10; the deadline to add transport to a booking is 16/08/26. Race bibs are collected at BigFeat HQ tents at Mayflower Park on the day. Runners must carry at least 500 ml of fluid, are advised to carry suitable clothing for changing conditions, and are recommended to download the GPX route file. A bag drop will operate at each start and the course is marked with aid stations, safety and medical support, and on course photography. Participants may opt to have a tree planted instead of receiving a finishers medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
