Event overview

The Big Pilgrimage is a point-to-point mixed terrain running event on 23 August 2026. The route follows the start of a historic Pilgrim Trail called "The Old Way" from Mayflower Park in Southampton and runs along coastal and countryside paths. The 15 mile course finishes at the medieval ruins of Titchfield Abbey. The marathon finishes in the grounds of Boundary Oak School, near the village of Wickham.

Runners cross the Hamble River by boat at the Hamble foreshore, continuing the route from Warsash around the coast to Titchfield Haven. The route passes pilgrimage landmarks including Netley Castle, Netley Abbey, and The Chapel at Royal Victoria Country Park. Participants collect a sticker at each landmark for a collectible race bib.

Logistics and requirements

Coach transport to the start is available from the finish locations for a fee of £10; the deadline to add coach transport to a booking is 16/08/26. A bag drop tent will operate at each start and bags will be transported to the finishes. Canicross entries are not accepted.

All runners must carry at least 500 ml of fluid. Runners are advised to carry appropriate clothing for changeable conditions and to download the GPX route to a wearable device, since arrows on the marked course may be tampered with. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
