The DCRO Dash

The DCRO Dash is a fell race held around the hills south-west of Castleton in the Peak District of Derbyshire. It is organised as a fund-raiser for the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation and is run under Fell Runners Association rules, with an FRA race category of BS. The published race distance is 8.5 km with a total ascent of 370 m.

The route passes through upland country between the moors of the Dark Peak and the valleys of the White Peak and traverses areas close to cave and mining terrain. Due to the mining terrain the course is partially flagged and marshalled; competitors are required to follow the flagged route for navigation and safety.

Entry arrangements include a pre-entry fee of £6 and an on-the-day fee of £6.50, with the race limited to 200 entries. Minimum age for competitors is 18 years.

Race safety requirements follow FRA equipment rules. Competitors must carry full FRA kit including a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, hat and gloves and be prepared to wear or carry this kit if conditions require. GPS navigation devices are not permitted for route-finding, although devices that only record the route for later review may be carried. Spectators’ dogs must be on a leash.
