Thaxted Trail Marathon & Half Marathon takes place in Thaxted, Essex, starting from Thaxted Church Hall. The event offers two self-navigation trail distances: a marathon and a half marathon. There are no course markings or GPX files, and no marshals; participants follow a written route description issued on race day.

It is not a mass-start event, with runners starting in morning waves and finishing by mid-afternoon as the hall is needed for the venue. A cup-free policy provides reusable cups at stops, and post-race refreshments include homemade cakes, soup, scones, and hot drinks. Entry is £10-£12 (affiliated vs unaffiliated), plus a booking fee; results are posted by Essex Trail Events.
