Course Format

The Tentsmuir Forest 8-hour Challenge is a timed event where participants try to complete as many laps as possible within an 8-hour limit. Each lap is 4.366 miles long. The cut-off time for starting a final lap is 7 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. The final lap must be completed by the 9-hour mark.

Distances and Route

Laps completed translate to standard race distances:

  • 3 laps equals a half marathon.
  • 6 laps equals a full marathon.
  • 7 or more laps is considered an ultra marathon.

The route follows trail paths through Tentsmuir Forest. Each lap has approximately 20 feet of ascent.

Event Logistics and Kit

A race basecamp is set up for kit storage, though the organizer does not accept liability for lost items. Spectators are welcome at basecamp. A mandatory kit list is required for all participants:

  • Sufficient nutrition and hydration.
  • Appropriate clothing for weather conditions.
  • Dry clothes for after the event.
  • A mobile phone.

Parking at Tentsmuir Forest uses a pay barrier system, costing £4 for the day.

Timing and Registration

Participants are provided with an electronic wristband (HuTag) to track lap counts and times. Runners must check out with the timing partner after finishing to finalize their result and collect their finisher prize.

Enjoy a 19.5 mile fun run from Dundee to St Andrews along the scenic Fife Coastal Path. This non competitive event features forest trails and a historic finish at the Old Course including a medal and commemorative t-shirt.
