Event overview
The Team Red Shamrock Trail Challenge is the 15th annual trail race held in Coralville, Iowa, to benefit the Red Shamrock Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that supports pediatric cancer survivors and survivorship research. The event offers two distances:
- 10 mile
- 5K
The race is chip-timed. It is part of the No Coast Trail Series and takes place at Coralville Creekside Park (3550 340th Street). Registration opens January 1, 2026 with a one-day special fee. Pediatric cancer survivors receive free entry with a coupon code. The event policy states there are no refunds or bib transfers. The race may modify the course or cancel for safety, trail conditions, park closures, natural disaster, pandemic, or government restrictions; in those cases registration fees are not refunded. Registered participants can request a deferral to the 2027 race; the deferral request deadline is March 28, 2026.
Course and services
Both distances share the same start/finish line. The 10 mile course is an out-and-back route. The 5K follows the same route with a turnaround at about the 2 mile point. Surfaces include grass, dirt single track, and paved trail. The route may use alternate paved sections depending on conditions. Leashed dogs are allowed. Aid and facilities include water and snacks at the start/finish, flush toilets and running water, and an aid station with toilets near the Tom Harkin trailhead. Swag (including shirts) is included with registration but shirts are not guaranteed for late registrants. Awards are given by overall gender and by age groups; top male and female overall receive a pair of running shoes. Packet pick-up is available the day before at a local running store and at the start on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
