Survival of the Fittest

Survival of the Fittest is a trail running event organized by Coast Mountain Trail Running, based at Capilano University in Squamish, British Columbia. The race follows a looped route that mixes climbing, descending, runnable sections and technical trail, and includes named segments such as Legacy, Megacy, STP, Somewhere Over There, Hoods In The Woods and Blaine's Connector, plus two bridge crossings called Darwin's and Carpenter's Son.

The 18 km route has 1050 m ascent and descent; the 35 km route has 1650 m ascent and descent. The 18 km and 35 km courses include aid stations - the 18 km has one at 9 km; the 35 km has stations at 5 km, 17 km and 28 km. Aid stations are located on high-traffic forest service roads and are off limits to crew and spectators.

The event has a registration cap (275 places for 18 km and 325 for 35 km). Published fees are 80 CAD for 18 km and 105 CAD for 35 km; the Kids Race is free. Five dollars from each registration is directed to Squamish Search & Rescue and one tree will be planted locally for each entry. The race is cup-free so runners must carry a personal cup, and hiking or running poles are not allowed. Entry transfers are not permitted and bibs are not transferable. Deferral and refund rules vary by timing before race day, with limited or no refunds close to the event and full refunds available only if optional refund insurance was selected at registration.
