Survival of the Fittest

Survival of the Fittest is held from the Capilano University lands (formerly Quest) in Squamish, BC, using local trail networks. Courses are looped and mix climbing, descending, runnable sections and technical terrain, with valley views toward the Tantalus Range. The route crosses two named bridges, Darwin's and Carpenter's Son.

The 18 km course has 1050 m ascent and 1050 m descent (3400 ft). The 35 km course has 1650 m ascent and 1650 m descent (5400 ft). The 18 km includes one aid station at 9 km. The 35 km visits aid stations at km 5, 17 and 28 (two unique aid stations; one is visited twice). Aid stations are located in high-traffic forest service road areas and are off-limits to crew and spectators.

A kids race of about 1 km is offered; it is non-competitive, not timed, and typically attracts children aged roughly 3 to 10. Adults may run with children. The event operates cup-free and requires runners to carry their own drinking vessel. Poles are not allowed on any distance. A tented bag check is available at the start/finish but is not monitored. The event includes a donation to local search and rescue and a tree planted per entry. The race takes place on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw.
