Event overview

Survival of the Fittest is a trail race organised by Coast Mountain Trail Running on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Capilano University (formerly Quest) in Squamish, BC. The event offers multiple distances and a children’s race. Each entry includes a $5 donation to Squamish Search & Rescue and one tree planted locally through a Fraser Valley reforestation program. Most CMTR events now offer ITRA points; UTMB points are no longer available.

Course and support

The 18 km course has 1,050 m ascent and 1,050 m descent. The 35 km course has 1,650 m ascent and 1,650 m descent. The routes include named local trails such as Legacy, Megacy, STP, Somewhere Over There, Hoods In The Woods, and Blaine's Connector, and cross Darwin's and Carpenter's Son bridges. Aid stations: the 18 km course has one aid station at km 9; the 35 km course visits two unique aid stations, located at km 5/17 (same station visited twice) and km 28. Aid-station supplies include gel, energy drink mix, Coke, water, chips, fruit and cookies.

Logistics and policies

Package pickup takes place at a local shop (Capra Running) and at the race start on race day; ID is required to collect a bib and only the registered runner may pick up their bib. The event is cup-free; runners must carry their own cup. Trekking poles are not allowed. Bag check is available at the start/finish but is not monitored. Entry caps limit total registrations. Run rugged North Shore trails to a Deep Cove finish in the Iron Knee and Tender Knee, with 25 km and 12 km options. Expect stair sections, scenic singletrack and a stiff Powerline climb for a rewarding waterfront finish.
