Survival of the Fittest : Overview

The Survival of the Fittest trail races take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Capilano University (formerly Quest) in Squamish, BC. Distances offered:

  • 18 km
  • 35 km
  • Kids Race (about 1 km, typical ages 3 to 10)

Entry includes a $5 donation to Squamish Search & Rescue, one tree planted per entry, a branded beer glass, tote bag, sticker, post-race sushi, post-race massage, and professional chip timing. Entry fees listed are CDN$ 80 for the 18 km and CDN$ 105 for the 35 km.

Course and event details

Both courses are looped on the Capilano University lands and feature climbing, descending, runnable and technical sections with views of the Tantalus Mountain Range. The 18 km course has 1050 m ascent and 1050 m descent. The 35 km course has 1650 m ascent and 1650 m descent. Named trails include Legacy and Megacy, STP, Somewhere Over There, Hoods In The Woods, and Blaine’s Connector, with bridge crossings over Darwin’s and Carpenter’s Son.

Aid stations: the 18 km course has one aid station at 9 km; the 35 km course has aid stations at 5, 17 and 28 km (two unique stations, one visited twice). Races are cupless, poles are not allowed, and a bag check tent at the start/finish is not monitored. A pre-race briefing is mandatory. The event acknowledges it occurs on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
