Event overview

Summit North Trail Runs takes place in Duluth, Minnesota at Spirit Mountain, Grand Avenue Chalet on August 14-15, 2026. The weekend includes a Friday evening Hill Climb & Descent and multiple Saturday races on local trails in West Duluth. Courses use a mix of smooth gravel and technical singletrack, including sections of the Superior Hiking Trail with rocks, slippery roots, and steep climbs and descents. The Forest Track includes a plunge through Ely's Tunnel and a steep ascent of Ely's Peak where runners may use their hands to scramble over boulders. The City of Duluth permits the event; route changes or cancellation are possible for safety or trail conditions. All finishers receive a finisher award and event apparel will be available.

Sign up opens in February 2026 and is online only; there is no paper or in-person registration. Youth pricing applies to Saturday races for participants up to 21 years old; other discounts do not combine with youth pricing. The event follows a cupless policy - aid stations are staffed and stocked, but runners must carry their own cup or bottle. The event has adopted Trail Sisters Approved Standards, including equal podiums and women-specific provisions such as menstrual products at aid stations.
