Grand Traverse

The Grand Traverse is a point to point trail race and hike located in Duluth, Minnesota. The event takes place on the Superior Hiking Trail and provides participants with full support throughout the course. Registration opens in late January and continues through early September. All race distances conclude at the Fitger's Courtyard, situated next to Lake Superior.

Participants can choose from four distinct trail distances:

  • 27 Miles: Starts at the Palkie Road trailhead in Jay Cooke State Park, passing through old growth forests.
  • 21 Miles: Begins at the base of Ely's Peak and proceeds to the summit.
  • 17 Miles: Starts at the Magney Snively trailhead parking lot and crosses a gorge near the start.
  • 10 Miles: Begins along Keene Creek and features waterfalls, rocks, and various climbs.

The event organizers provide a shuttle bus service to transport participants to their respective start locations. The routes encompass diverse terrain including rocky hill tops, stream crossings, and wooded areas. This event marks the 19th annual edition of the traverse through the regional trail system. A second annual 5K on the ski trails of Snowflake Nordic Ski Center in Duluth on July 18, 2026. The timed race benefits the Duluth East Boys and Girls Cross Country Team and includes finish-line treats and awards.

A 50 miles out and back trail ultramarathon between Carlton and Duluth, Minnesota, over rugged singletrack with about 5,000 ft of ascent and descent. The course passes Jay Cooke State Park, Lake Superior overlooks, and the Swinging Bridge.

A nine-race trail series in August October 2026 across the Twin Ports featuring woodland singletrack courses from about 5.5 to 10.5 km. Entry is free and the season concludes with a potluck and prizes.
