Stow Maries Trail Challenge

The Stow Maries Trail Challenge is a six hour trail running event in which runners set their own targets and goals. The main route is a loop just over 5K (3.3 miles), with about 95% off road. The course follows footpaths through fields and vineyards and offers occasional views across the River Crouch. The route is fully marked with tape and arrows.

Each participant completes as many loops as they can or want within the six hour limit. The event is chip timed. There is one well stocked checkpoint on the loop that runners pass approximately every 5K.

The race starts and finishes next to the carpark near the entrance of the aerodrome. Completing a single lap entitles the runner to a medal. On finishing, participants receive a medal and additional event goodies.

Example target distances that can be attempted by repeating loops: Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

  • 5K: one loop
  • 10 miles: several loops
  • Marathon: accumulate loops to reach marathon distance
  • Ultra: accumulate greater distance within the six hour limit
