Southern States 200
The Southern States 200 is a mountain trail, point-to-point endurance event that follows the Pinhoti Trail from near Dalton, Georgia to the summit of Mt. Cheaha, the highest point in Alabama. The full course covers 202.41 miles and records 27,933 feet of elevation gain. Runners have 100 hours to complete the route and the course is fully marked with prismatic reflective flags, ribbons, and signs.
Distances offered:
- 200 Miler, point-to-point, 202.41 miles
- 100 Miler, Cave Spring to Bald Rock
- Southern Staters 100 Pacer Race, pacing the final 100 miles for a 200-mile runner
Fifteen fully staffed aid stations are placed along the course, offering made-to-order hot food around the clock. Five staffed stations double as heated sleep stations with sleeping pads and bags in a dedicated tent. One additional unstaffed water only station is available on course.
Pacers who register for the 100 Mile Pacer Race may pace a 200-mile runner through the final 100 miles and earn an official 100-mile finish. Pacers' finish credit is independent of the noon start 100-mile field; if the paced runner drops, a pacer may continue and still receive full credit.
The Historic Bald Rock Lodge at Cheaha State Park is reserved as the finish location and offers 12 individual rooms with private baths for specified nights. The Fairfield Inn in Dalton serves as the host hotel and may offer reduced rates through the event links.
Volunteer roles earn credit toward future entries at a rate of $150 per full day worked and may be transferable. Refund, roll over, date change, and cancellation policies include specific deadlines and conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
