The Southern States 100 can be entered as a standalone 100-mile race or as a pacer category in which pacing the final 100 miles counts as an official 100-mile finish and earns the event buckle. The pacer category is separate from the noon-start 100-mile field; if a paced runner drops, the pacer may continue and still receive full credit.
Logistics note: the event lists Delta, Alabama (19644 Hwy 281) as a primary location, finish amenities at Bald Rock Lodge in Cheaha State Park with reserved rooms on select nights, and the Fairfield Inn in Dalton as the host hotel with limited rooms and a reduced rate. Runners without a crew must use shuttle transportation to the start.
Volunteer and entry policies: volunteers earn $150 credit per full day (12-hour minimum), five days of volunteering yields a complimentary automatic entry the following year, and credits are transferable. Volunteers must be registered at least 30 days before race day to be eligible; each 12-hour shift allows a maximum of four volunteers to earn credit. Refund and roll-over rules are tiered by date, and the event may change date or cancel for conditions such as acts of God, pandemics, extreme fire or flood danger, landslides, or permitting agency requirements.
