Mount Cheaha 50K

The Mount Cheaha 50K UltraMarathon is a point to point trail run that finishes at the summit of Cheaha State Park, at 2,407 feet, the highest point in Alabama. The course runs mostly on single-track trails through the Talladega National Forest and uses sections of the Pinhoti Trail, Skyway Trail and Silent Trail.

Runners encounter scenic overlooks, creek crossings, lakes, waterfalls, and stretches of hardwood and pine forest. About 80 percent of the course is single track. The official distance to the finish is 31.6 miles and the published time limit for the event is 9 hours 30 minutes.

There are six aid stations at the following approximate mile points: Chandler Springs (3.3 miles, water only), Clairmont (8.5 miles), Adams Gap (14.8 miles), Hubbard Creek (18.8 miles), Silent Trail (25.8 miles), and Cheaha Lake (28.5 miles, water only). Results are posted online after the race. Awards include top three overall male and female, first male and female master, first male and female grand master, and a finisher medal for all finishers.

Logistics notes include limited parking at the start area, available bus transport for a fee, crew passes for Cheaha State Park with per vehicle fees, and onsite porta potties at the start. The race is part of the Pinhoti Trail Races 50K Grand Slam and is listed as the 21st annual running of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
