The Mount Cheaha 50K is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon that finishes at Cheaha State Park on the summit of Cheaha Mountain, the highest point in Alabama at 2,407 feet. The 50K course runs mostly on single-track trail - about 80% - using the Pinhoti Trail, Skyway Trail, and Silent Trail through the Talladega National Forest. The route includes scenic overlooks, creek crossings, lakes, waterfalls, and hardwood and pine forests.
Course support and event details
The event is the 21st running of the race. A time limit of 9 hours 30 minutes applies. There are six aid stations along the course: Chandler Springs (3.3 miles, water only), Clairmont (8.5 miles), Adams Gap (14.8 miles), Hubbard Creek (18.8 miles), Silent Trail (25.8 miles, water only), and Cheaha Lake (28.5 miles), with the finish at about 31.6 miles. Packet pickup is available the day before at Coldwater Mountain Brewpub and on race morning at Porters Gap Trailhead. Bus tickets are offered for a fee of $15; buses depart from the Cheaha State Park overflow parking area. Parking at the start is limited and vehicles must be removed when the race begins. Crew passes for Cheaha State Park must be paid in advance; listed fees apply by age, and active or retired military and veterans are free. Results will be posted online. Awards include top overall and masters categories, and all finishers receive a medal. No refunds, race day registration, transfers, or deferrals are permitted.
