The Mount Cheaha 50K is a point to point trail race that finishes at the summit area of Cheaha Mountain inside Cheaha State Park, which sits at 2,407 feet. The course runs mostly on natural single track trails along the Pinhoti Trail, Skyway Trail and Silent Trail through the Talladega National Forest. Runners pass scenic overlooks, creek crossings, lakes, waterfalls, and hardwood and pine forests.
The published time limit for the event is 9 hours 30 minutes. There are six aid stations positioned along the route, with water only at Aid 1 (Chandler Springs) and Aid 6 (Cheaha Lake); other aid locations include Clairmont, Adams Gap, Hubbard Creek and Silent Trail. The finish line is listed at 31.6 miles.
Logistics include packet pickup on the day before the race at Coldwater Mountain Brewpub in Anniston and additional pickup at the Porters Gap Trailhead on race morning. Bus transportation back to the start is offered for a fee; parking at the Porters Gap start is limited and parking attendants will assist on race morning. Crew passes for Cheaha State Park must be purchased in advance and are paid in cash with specified fees by age; active and retired military and veterans are exempt from the park fee.
