McClellan Madness is an 8-hour and 4-hour trail running event held at the McClellan Bike Trails in Anniston, Alabama (460 Brigadier D H Stem Ave). The event marks its fifth anniversary in 2026. The course normally runs clockwise each year; in 2026 the loop will be run counterclockwise. The race starts and finishes at the McClellan bike trailhead.

Course, aid and policies

The course is a single-track loop of about 4.1 miles with roughly 300 feet of elevation gain per loop. The trail is described as runnable with a few rocks and not technical. Aid at the start/finish includes a self-serve full station with snack options and vegan choices on request; staff will provide water, Coke, Ginger Ale and Tailwind. Grilled cheese and vegan grilled cheese will be available. The event is cupless. Participants may set up a personal aid station at the start/finish, at their vehicle, on the grass, or at the outdoor amphitheater.

Distances and challenge awards:

  • 25k - four loops
  • 50k - eight loops

Awards are given to the male and female who cover the longest distance in each timed category. Packet pickup occurs on race day only. There are no refunds or deferrals; entry transfers to another runner are possible. The course is on former Fort McClellan land where ordnance may still be present.
