Event Overview

McClellan Madness is a trail running event held at the former United States Army post, Fort McClellan, in Anniston, Alabama. The race takes place on the McClellan bike trails, starting and ending at the bike trailhead. The course utilizes a 4.1-mile loop of single track trail that is primarily runnable with some rocky sections, though it is not classified as technical terrain. Participants experience approximately 300 feet of elevation gain per loop.

Race Options

The event features two timed categories:

  • 4-hour run
  • 8-hour run

Course and Facilities

The race follows a loop format where runners complete as many laps as possible within their chosen timeframe. A self-serve aid station is located at the start and finish area, providing various snacks, including vegan options. Organizers provide water, Coke, Ginger Ale, and Tailwind. Participants should note that this is a cupless event, meaning runners must bring their own hydration vessels.

Personal aid stations may be set up at the start and finish line, near vehicles, in the grass, or at the outdoor amphitheater. Packet pickup is conducted on the morning of the race at the event location.

Awards and Recognition

Every participant who completes at least one loop receives a custom finisher poker chip. Overall awards are presented to the male and female runners who cover the furthest distance in each time category. In the event of a tie in distance, the award is granted to the individual who reached that distance in the fastest time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
