About the race
In the Heat of the Night is a night trail event on September 14, 2027 in Anniston, AL, organized by Dirty Soles Trail Races. The course is a loop on Talladega Forest roads, surrounded by forest and sections of the Pinhoti Trail. The start area is at Frog Pond Overlook. The loop is made up of maintained dirt and gravel forest roads.
Distances:
- 100K four loops, about 7920 ft elevation gain, cutoff 18 hours.
- 50K two loops, about 3950 ft elevation gain, cutoff 10 hours.
- 25K one loop, about 1980 ft elevation gain, cutoff 6 hours.
- 10K out and back 3.1 miles one way, about 596 ft elevation gain, cutoff 4 hours.
The race direction changes by year: even years run counter clockwise, odd years run clockwise. There is an aid station at the start/finish and two full aid stations on course. This is a cupless event. Drop bags are allowed at the two on-course aid stations for 50K and 100K entrants.
Per event items include a participant shirt (order deadline July 13) and handmade amulets for finishers. Top three female and male finishers in each distance receive handmade awards. 100K entrants receive a BOCO Trucker hat with registration; other distances may purchase a hat at packet pickup. A single free preview run is planned for June or July. Registration is limited to 200 spots and there are no refunds, deferrals, or transfers; in case of forest fire or natural disaster registrations will be deferred to the next year.
