In the Heat of the Night
In the Heat of the Night is a nighttime trail running event in Anniston, AL, centered at the Frog Pond Overlook on Talladega Forest roads adjacent to the Pinhoti Trail. The course is made up of maintained dirt and gravel forest roads and is run as looped circuits for most distances. The direction of the loop changes by year: even years run counter clockwise and odd years run clockwise.
Distances offered:
- 100K : four-loop course, ~7920 ft elevation gain, cutoff 18 hours
- 50K : two-loop course, ~3950 ft elevation gain, cutoff 10 hours
- 25K : one-loop course, ~1980 ft elevation gain, cutoff 6 hours
- 10K : out-and-back, 3.1 miles up and back, ~596 ft elevation gain, cutoff 4 hours
There is an aid station at the start/finish and two full aid stations on course. Drop bags are allowed at the two on-course aid stations for the 50K and 100K. The event is cupless. Each finisher who completes their registered distance receives a handmade amulet; top three men and women for each distance receive handmade awards as they finish. 100K finishers receive a BOCO Trucker hat included with registration. Running the 100K in consecutive years, once clockwise and once counter clockwise, earns the Double Down award.
