In the Heat of the Night in Anniston, AL
In the Heat of the Night is a night trail race held in Anniston, Alabama on August 14, 2027, organized by Dirty Soles Trail Races. The event uses a loop course on maintained dirt and gravel forest roads in the Talladega Forest, adjacent to the Pinhoti Trail. The start and finish are at Frog Pond Overlook. Start/finish coordinates are GPS 33.714045 -85.6643037.
Course direction changes each year: even years run counter clockwise and odd years run clockwise. The event runs through the night from sunset to sunrise and participants are expected to use personal lighting and reflective gear.
Distances offered
- 100K: four loops, 7920 ft total elevation gain, 18 hour cutoff
- 50K: two loops, 3950 ft total elevation gain, 10 hour cutoff
- 25K: one loop, 1980 ft total elevation gain, 6 hour cutoff
- 10K: out and back, 596 ft total elevation gain, 4 hour cutoff
Aid stations include one at the start/finish and two full stations on course. The event is cupless. Drop bags are allowed at the two course aid stations for 50K and 100K runners.
Each registrant receives a race shirt unless they opt out; shirt deadline is July 13. Finishers receive a handmade amulet and top three male and female finishers of each distance receive handmade awards. The 100K includes a BOCO Trucker hat with registration. The race limits entries to 200 spots and uses a waitlist when sold out. In the event of a forest fire or natural disaster, registration will be deferred to the next year.
