Sole Survivor Backyard Ultra in Richland WA

The event is a backyard ultra held in Richland WA and organized by Nomad Trail Runners. Runners repeat a precise loop each hour until only one runner remains. Each loop measures about 4.16667 miles and includes a short paved section at the start to space runners before a single track trail.

The course is mostly flat single track with some rocks and roots, one short steep climb of about 6 to 8 feet, and roughly 30 to 40% shade. Trails will be marked and a map of the route will be available. There is one aid station at the start and finish offering typical aid station food and ice; hot soup will be available for runners overnight.

Runners must start each hourly loop on time and complete the loop within the hour to remain in the race. Between loops runners may use the time to rest, eat, change clothes, or nap, but they may not leave the venue or start the next loop early. Crews and supporters may stay in the parking area but may not run the course or act as pacers. Pets are not allowed on course at the same time as runners except for service animals.

This race is an affiliate of Big's Backyard Ultra. Runners who reach 100 miles will receive a custom belt buckle and the event may provide up to $500 toward airfare to Big's for an eligible winner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
