Climb 89

Climb 89 is a hill repeat event held at Badger Mountain Westgate Trailhead in Richland, WA (46.242357, -119.342787). The course is a 0.35 mile one-way climb on an access road with an average grade of 16% and about 89 meters (292 feet) of elevation gain per ascent. Terrain is a mix of dirt and rocks and can be uneven in places.

Participants complete repeated out-and-back laps on the designated segment. A lap counting system using barcode badges and bib barcodes is used; scanners register each completed lap with an audible beep and display the participant name and current lap count. The course is set up as a single Strava segment (Climb 89, segment 36079116) so a single activity with the required repeats can qualify for Everesting recognition.

Finisher awards are distributed by lap totals, including the following milestones:

  • 100 laps - Mt. Everest - 29,032 ft
  • 85 laps - Annapurna III - 24,787 ft
  • 70 laps - Denali - 20,310 ft
  • 50 laps - Mt. Rainier - 14,411 ft
  • 29 laps - Mt. St. Helens - 8,363 ft
  • 13 laps - Rattlesnake Mountain - 3,531 ft

Aid is available at the start/finish area with water, electrolytes, and snacks; additional food is provided at scheduled meal periods. The event is limited to 75 participants. The entry fee covers the event, food, snacks, and a finisher award; a cash prize is awarded for course records. Multiple start times are offered and participants must check in and pick up their bib at least 15 minutes before their chosen start time.

Several rules apply, including no sleeping during the event, the requirement to cross turnaround lines for laps to count, the need for sturdy footwear, and the expectation to yield to trail users and occasional vehicles on the access road. Partial laps do not count and the final lap must be completed before the course closes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
