Badger Mountain Challenge - Richland, WA
The Badger Mountain Challenge is an annual trail event held on Badger Mountain in Richland, Washington, organized by Nomad Trail Runners. The course runs through the Badger Mountain Preserve, an area established in 2005 to maintain open space and provide trails with views of the Columbia Basin. The event combines a local community atmosphere with organized race support and includes post race food for entrants.
Several event options are offered:
- 15 km
- 15 km ruck
- 55 km
- 50 miles
- 50 mile ruck
- 100 km (new)
- 100 miles
There is also a combined entry option for the 50 mile plus 55 km events that creates a separate race category and awards a unique prize for finishing both. Ruck divisions require a backpack or rucksack weighing between 20 and 30 pounds, not counting water or food used during the race; all ruck finishers receive a custom Badger rucking patch. Organizers note that entry fees were increased due to rising costs and that an early bird price applies in December, matching the prior year fee structure. Organizers will send important event updates by email and request accurate email addresses during registration. Volunteers are needed and receive a race shirt plus either a free future 15 km race entry or a discounted fee for longer distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
