Event Overview

The Badger Mountain Challenge is an ultramarathon and trail running event held in Richland, Washington. The 2026 edition marks its 15th annual running and takes place on March 27-28.

Distances and Formats

The event offers seven different race formats:

  • 15K Ruck (participants carry a 20-30 lb pack)

  • 50 Mile Ruck (participants carry a 20-30 lb pack)
  • 100K Run
  • 100 Mile Run There is also a 50M/55K Combo option, which is a separate race category for participants who complete both the 50-mile and 55K events on consecutive days.

Schedule

The 100-mile, 100K, and 50-mile races (both run and ruck) start on Friday, March 27. The 55K and 15K races (both run and ruck) start on Saturday, March 28. The event takes place on Badger Mountain, a popular hiking and trail running area in the Tri-Cities region with views of the Columbia Basin. The Badger Mountain Preserve, established in 2005, provides the open space for the event.

Additional Information

All entrants have access to post-race food. Participants in the ruck divisions receive a custom rucking patch upon finishing. Volunteers for the event receive a free shirt with the race logo and a free entry to a future BMC 15K race. Registration closes on Monday, March 23. Trail runs nearby

Trail races at Rattlesnake Mountain Preserve near Benton City offer 5K, 11K, 10 Mile and a timed 6 Hour format. The event supports trail maintenance, includes finisher glass awards, and offers cash bonuses for new course records.

A seven-lap trail event in Reata Canyon near Kennewick, WA, with three divisions that require a beverage before each lap and a total climb of 4,280 feet for the full course. Entrants receive a custom pint glass.
