The Drop - Skipton

The Drop is a navigation challenge centered on uncertainty and self-sufficiency. Unlike traditional races, this event does not provide a marked route, directions, or mirrors. Participants are transported by bus from the event centre to an undisclosed location while wearing blackout blindfolds or safety goggles. The objective is to find the way back to the starting point using only personal intuition and physical effort.

At registration, all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids must be handed over. In return, participants receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Breaking the seal of this bag during the event leads to disqualification. GPS devices are permitted only if they are sealed inside the emergency bag for the duration of the challenge.

The event offers three distinct distances, measured as the crow flies:

  • 6 miles: Reserved strictly for non-locals to ensure no participant has a geographic advantage.
  • 10 miles: A shorter version of the core challenge following the same navigation restrictions.
  • 15 miles: The original distance involving longer decision-making and sustained physical activity.

Because the distances are measured in a straight line, the actual distance traveled on foot will be longer. Participants must complete the journey entirely on foot. The event center is located in Skipton, approximately a five-minute walk from both the local railway station and the bus station. Optional live GPS tracking is available for safety and for others to monitor progress remotely. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
