Skipton - The Drop UK (28 December 2026)

The Drop is a navigation challenge organised by The Drop UK in Skipton. Participants are taken to an undisclosed drop location and must find their own way back to the event centre without maps, GPS, compass, or external help. Distances are measured as the crow flies; the actual route will be significantly longer.

Distances

  • 6 miles - open to non-locals only
  • 10 miles
  • 15 miles

Entries for the 6-mile option may be checked and local participants can be moved to the 10- or 15-mile options.

Format, kit and rules

At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. They receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration. Deployment is by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; when blindfolds are removed the challenge begins. Core rules include no GPS unless the device is sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, travel on foot only, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken.

Logistics and tracking

Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional, paid feature and must be returned after the event or a replacement fee applies. Trackers are generally accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings and signal black spots. Parking is available in the town centre; the nearest railway station and bus station are both about a five minute walk from the event HQ. Prices listed are £35, £45, and £55 for the 6-, 10-, and 15-mile options respectively. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
