Halifax Urban Trail

The Halifax Urban Trail is a trail race of just over 10K taking place on Easter Monday 2027 (Monday 29 March 2027). The 2027 event will be the second staging of the race after its inaugural running in 2026.

The route begins at Shibden Park and follows tracks and paths to Beacon Hill, a viewpoint above Halifax. Runners then descend into the town and pass through several landmark buildings and spaces. The course includes a subterranean passage under Shibden Hall and runs through Halifax Minster, the Piece Hall, the Borough Market and Dean Clough Mills. The route also includes access inside Halifax Town Hall. Several places on the route are not normally open to the public.

The first Halifax Urban Trail attracted almost five hundred runners and received media coverage in The Guardian. The event draws on the concept of urban trails that run through public buildings and city landmarks.

The race is organised to raise funds for the local Calderdale hospice Overgate; the 2026 event raised £10,000. The event is licensed by England Athletics and is registered as a charity, number 1213992. Entries for 2027 open on December 1st. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
