Castle to Castle ULTRA 36

The Castle to Castle ULTRA 36 is a point-to-point ultra running event covering 36 miles between Clitheroe Castle and Lancaster Castle. The route is largely on trails but includes some urban sections and road crossings. The event uses chip timing and live runner tracking, and finishers receive medals and hoodies. The course is fully marked and serviced with six checkpoints; each checkpoint provides water and cordial and four checkpoints also offer a selection of supplementary snacks. A GPX file and full route information are supplied to registered participants shortly before the event.

Entry is by pre-registration only; there are no entry places on the day. The event is restricted to participants aged 18 or over. The entry fee is £65 and entries close on 12 July 2026. Return transport from the finish back to the start is available for runners at an additional charge of £10 when registering.

Participants must collect a race pack on the day and pass a kit check before starting. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof coat with sealed seams; a long sleeved base layer; a water bottle or bladder with at least 1 litre capacity; a fully charged mobile phone; a foil blanket; and a whistle. Failure to carry mandatory kit may result in disqualification or a minimum one hour time penalty per missing item. The maximum permitted time for completion is 10 hours. Participants accept responsibility for their own fitness, safety, and any medical costs and must comply with the event terms and instructions from marshals.
