Sentinel Hill Climb : event overview
The Sentinel Hill Climb is a trail race held on Mount Sentinel on the University of Montana campus. The event is limited to 250 runners. Registration policies state there are no refunds, deferrals, or bib transfers. Runners receive Big Dipper ice cream, chip timing from Competitive Timing, and Hammer Nutrition products at the finish. Parking is available in the ‘M’ Trail Parking Lot and is limited; surrounding lots require a University parking pass.
Course, kids run, and volunteers
The main climb finishes on the summit of Mount Sentinel and follows the ‘M’ trail for the first third, then the Northwest ridge trail to the summit. Distances:
- Main climb: 1.6 miles, about 1,970 feet of elevation gain
- Kids 'M' Trail Climb: 0.6 miles, 600 feet of climbing
The Kids run goes from the base area to the M and returns after the main runners pass. Volunteers help with roles such as parking, packet pick up, and aid stations; volunteers receive a $15 Runner’s Edge gift card and post-race Big Dipper ice cream.
Awards and eligibility
Cash prizes of $100 are offered to the first overall male and female, and $50 premiums are offered to the first male and female to the ‘M’ (finish required to be eligible). To be eligible for the overall cash prizes, athletes must start in the elite wave. Overall places for top finishers are determined by gun time. Age group winners receive Big Dipper Ice Cream gift cards; age groups are 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
