Event overview
ScoCo50 is a trail running event at Scott County Park near Long Grove, Iowa. The event offers three distances:
- 50K
- 10 Miler
- 5 Miler
The start/finish is at the Whispering Pines Shelter in Scott County Park. The park has playgrounds, volleyball courts, a fishing pond, a heated pool with slides, and campgrounds, some reservable and some first-come.
Course, aid and support
The 50K and 10 Miler use a roughly 10-mile loop with about 950 ft of elevation gain per loop. The 50K completes the loop three times and the 10 Miler completes it once. The 5 Miler uses portions of the main course and has about 450 ft of elevation gain. Trails are mostly dirt and grass through wooded and prairie areas, with short stretches alongside the paved park road and wider softer shoulders available.
There is a fully stocked aid station at the start/finish and a second on course at about the 5-mile mark with fluids and basic nutrition. The 5 Miler has water available near its midway point. Drop bags are allowed at both aid stations. Crew access is limited to the start/finish area. Pacers are permitted for the 50K only and may join at the start/finish for the final 10-mile loop; pacers must be on foot. No bicycles are allowed.
Registration and rules
Registration is online only; paper or race-day registration is not available. There are no refunds or bib transfers. Deferrals are available as a rollover credit for the following year under the event policy.
Key race rules include Leave No Trace, no cutting the course, trekking poles allowed, dogs not allowed on course, enforcement of cutoffs, no muling, only one pacer at a time, and courteous behavior toward other trail users. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
