4sta Hike : September 12, 2026
The 4sta Hike is the ninth annual looped event held within Loud Thunder Forest Preserve near Andalusia, Illinois, along the banks of the Mississippi River. Participants run or hike a 1-mile loop as many times as they choose within a four hour time limit. The final course alignment is determined close to the event and may change based on summer rain levels.
Organizers describe two possible loop variants. The Easy option is 230' gain and 230' loss per loop. The Hard option is 304' gain and 304' loss per loop; the organizers prefer and plan to use the Hard course when possible and have not run the Easy course in prior years. The route includes smooth single track, rocks, roots, downed trees and steep gradients reported up to 48 percent. Terrain also features gently rolling sections.
A small aid station will be located at the start and finish area. Because this is a looped course, participants may set up chairs or pop up tents to rest between loops; depending on pace an athlete could reach the aid area every 10 to 30 minutes. Awards are planned for the male and female with the most loops completed within the time limit. Organizers intend to provide participant swag and post event food and cold beverages. After minimal expenses, proceeds are returned to the forest preserve; past contributions exceed $7,400 over eight years.
Rules include honesty and no littering. Sponsors are to be announced. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
