4sta Hike
The 4sta Hike is an annual loop event held at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve near Andalusia in Illinois City, IL. The 2026 edition is the ninth running of the event and uses a roughly 1-mile loop that participants repeat as desired within a 4 hour time limit.
Organizers describe two course variants. The Easy option records about 230 feet of gain and 230 feet of loss per loop. The Hard option records about 304 feet of gain and 304 feet of loss per loop. Organizers prefer the Hard route and plan to use it if conditions allow; the final course may be chosen closer to the event date depending on summer and recent rain levels.
The loop follows mostly single track and includes rocks, roots, downed trees, steep gradients observed up to 48 percent, and gently rolling terrain. Wildlife such as deer, turkeys, coyotes, and snakes are commonly visible on the preserve trail network.
A small aid station will be located at the start and finish area. The loop format allows participants to set chairs or shade structures nearby and return frequently to replenish supplies. Awards are given to the male and female with the most completed loops. Registration includes a shirt plus post race food and cold beverages. Net proceeds after expenses are returned to the forest preserve; over eight years the event has contributed more than $7,400 to Loud Thunder.
