Monarch Migration Fun Run

The Monarch Migration Fun Run is an annual trail event at the Wapsi River Environmental Education Center in Dixon, Iowa, scheduled for September 19, 2026. The event is organized as a self timed trail run offered in two distances and takes place on the center's upland and bottomland forests and prairie areas.

One wave is used for both distances. The check in table and the start and finish are located on the main prairie near the observatory. The course is suitable for running or walking through natural terrain; conditions may affect event status.

Registration fees are age based and include a t shirt and refreshments. Fees shown are $25 for participants age 16 and under and $30 for other participants. Registrations completed by August 30, 2026 are guaranteed a t shirt. Registration closes on September 19, 2026. If trail conditions are not favorable the run will be cancelled and registration fees will be considered a donation.

Net proceeds are designated for the Friends of the Wapsi Center, the same beneficiary as in past editions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

A multi-event day in Coal Valley with a 5K Mud Adventure Run, a Ninja Kids Run, and a Cross Country Trail Run. Main obstacles include a Tire Wall, Ninja Scaling Wall and Weight Lift; spectator entry is $7.

Part of Hoover Hometown Days on August 8, 2026, the event features a 5K through the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site tall-grass prairie and a 1.5K walk around the Presidential Library grounds.

ScoCo50 is a trail race at Scott County Park near Long Grove, IA offering 50K, 10 mile and 5 mile options on mixed dirt and grass trails, with aid stations, drop bag access, and limited crew and pacer allowances.

A 4 hour event on a 1 mile loop at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve near Andalusia, Illinois. Rocky singletrack, roots, downed trees and steep sections offer repeated climbs, and registrations include a shirt plus post race food.
