Participants have a 7-hour time limit to complete their chosen distance, providing flexibility for runners and walkers of all abilities. The event follows a lap-based format along a trail course situated by the River Wear, offering views of the Cathedral.

The primary lap is 4.37 miles (7 km), though this may be adjusted to a 3.28 mile loop depending on ground conditions. The course is fully signed and utilizes public footpaths. Specific turn points are established at 3 km and 5 km to accommodate younger participants and varying goals. Official finishing distances include:

  • 3 km
  • 5 km
  • 10 km
  • Half Marathon (3 laps)
  • Marathon (6 laps)
  • 50 km
  • Ultra (7 or more laps)

An aid station located at the start and finish of each lap provides a selection of sweet and savoury snacks, including vegan options. All finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal and a goody bag. Those completing a half-marathon distance or further are also eligible for specific distance pins.

The venue provides toilets, changing facilities, and a non-staffed bag drop area. Parking is available nearby via free on-street spots or city centre pay and display options. Race numbers are collected on the day of the event during registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
