BEYOND NEWCASTLE - 55KM ULTRA & 25KM TRAIL RUN

Beyond Newcastle is a fully supported trail running event that begins at the Swing Bridge on the Newcastle Quayside. The event offers two distinct distances through city and rural landscapes:

  • 55 km
  • 25 km

The 55 km route follows the River Tyne to Wylam before crossing the river and returning toward Derwenthaugh Marina. From there, the course transitions to the River Derwent, passing through High Spen and into Chopwell Woods and Lintzford. Runners then travel through the Derwent Valley and along the Derwent Walk to rejoin the River Tyne, eventually finishing on the West path of the Swing Bridge. This course includes three stocked feed stations.

The 25 km distance follows a scenic and sociable route along the trails. It includes one stocked feed station for participants. Both distances are fully signed and staffed by marshals.

The event features live chip-timing for all runners. A cut-off time is set for 7:30 pm, with a specific safety cut-off at the final feed station on Derwent Walk at 5:00 pm. Participants must be at least 17 years old for the 25 km and 21 years old for the 55 km. All finishers receive a medal, event merchandise, and a snack and drink.
