The Smurf Run - North is a timed trail running event. It is a seven-hour time challenge, allowing participants to choose their distance by completing laps. The event offers themed finisher medals and awards distance pins for those completing longer runs.

Location

The event is based at Durham Amateur Rowing Club in Durham, with a course running along the River Wear and offering views of Durham Cathedral. The run is classified as a trail run.

Course & Distances

Participants can run as many or as few laps as they wish within the seven-hour window. Distances available include:

Event Details

All participants who complete at least 3 km receive a themed finisher medal. Additional distance pins are awarded for completing a half marathon or more. A selection of snacks and drinks is available at the aid station. Finishers also receive a goody bag, with a vegan option available.

Venue facilities include toilets and changing rooms. A baggage drop area is available near the start and finish, but it is not a secure or supervised facility.

Set your own distance goal in this flexible 7-hour time challenge along Durham's River Wear. The flat, scenic trail offers views of the cathedral. Every finisher gets a medal, snacks, and a goody bag.

Winter trail runs at Derwent Reservoir offer 5 mile and 10 mile routes around the reservoir. The 5 mile allows canicross with one controlled dog, while the 10 mile follows closed roads and firm trails with live chip timing and a 2.5 hour cu..

A nighttime 10K trail run around the Northumberlandia landform with hills, stone paths, soft trails and forest tracks. A water station is at mile 4 and all finishers receive a bespoke medal.

A roughly 5k trail race at Hamsterley Forest on 8 March 2026 with mud, hills and obstacles; dogs are welcome and veterinary and canine first aid cover are provided. Teams of five compete for Top Dogz awards based on aggregate time.
