LSD Back Yard Ultra

The LSD (Last Standing Distance) is an endurance event held at West Benridge Farm in Morpeth, Northumberland. Following the official international format of the Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra World Championship Association, the race requires participants to run a 4.167-mile (6.7 km) loop every hour, on the hour. The event is open-ended and continues until only one runner remains to complete a solo loop.

The course is located on a working farm and features a mix of farmland, scenic trails, and ancient woodland. The route is designed to be flat and fast, with approximately 200 feet of ascent and descent per lap. The loop is fully marked and returns to a central headquarters field where participants can access their personal camp areas.

Facilities at the event site include:

  • On-site toilets and first aid services.
  • Parking for athletes and support crews.
  • Athlete camping on the main field, allowing one 3x3m gazebo or tent per runner.
  • Food vendors providing hot food and drinks.
  • Overflow camping for supporters and crew members.

The event follows strict Backyard Ultra rules, meaning no artificial aids such as trekking poles are permitted. Runners must be inside the starting corral when the bell rings for each new lap, and no personal aid is allowed while on the course. While there is only one official winner, all participants who do not finish the final solo loop receive a DNF (Did Not Finish) status and a finisher item.
