Allendale Challenge : 11 April 2026

The Allendale Challenge is a long-distance walking and fell-running event organised by North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team to raise funds for the charity. The 2026 edition follows an anti-clockwise loop from Allendale town and covers 26 miles (42 km) through upland terrain in the North Pennines.

The route passes peat bogs and summit terrain, including Hard Rigg, Black Hill and Kilhope Law, and returns to Allendale via Spartylea, The Drag and Ladlewell. Weather and ground conditions can be difficult and are part of the route experience.

For 2026 the event uses electronic chip timing to track participants around the course, reduce waiting at registration and checkpoints, and provide an accurate time at the finish. Entry is limited to 750 participants. The stated minimum age is 18 years, with younger participants from 14 years permitted only if accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.

Entry benefits include a premium quality cotton T-shirt and an Allendale Challenge pin badge. Entries open and close on published dates, and the event has a cancellation and refund policy. The event is run by volunteers from the rescue team and contributes to the team’s operational funding. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
