35th Allendale Challenge
The Allendale Challenge is an annual event organized by the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team to raise funds for their operations. Based in Allendale Town, Northumberland, the event utilizes the Allendale Village Hall as its central venue. The course covers a distance of 26 miles through the terrain of the North Pennines.
Participants follow an anti-clockwise loop that begins and ends in Allendale. The route traverses areas such as Hard Rigg, Black Hill, and Kilhope Law, before returning via Spartylea, The Drag, and Ladlewell. The course is known for its elevation and sections of peat bogs. Participants can choose between two pace options:
- 26 miles (Walker)
- 26 miles (Runner)
The event uses electronic chip timing to track participants across the course and at specific checkpoints. This system provides a printed finish time immediately upon completion. The entry fee includes a cotton T-shirt and a commemorative pin badge.
The registration limit is set at 750 participants. The minimum age for entry is 18 years, though individuals aged 14 and older may participate if they are accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
