35th Allendale Challenge

The Allendale Challenge is a long-distance event organized by the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team. The event serves as a fundraiser for the team and takes place in the North Pennines. The route begins and ends at the Allendale Village Hall in Northumberland.

Participants follow an anti-clockwise loop of approximately 26 miles through the local terrain. The course includes various geographical points such as Hard Rigg, Black Hill, and Kilhope Law. The return journey to Allendale town passes through Spartylea, The Drag, and Ladlewell. The terrain includes peat bogs, and the event is subject to the variable weather conditions of the region.

The event is open to both walkers and runners. Participants must be at least 18 years old, although those aged 14 and older may participate if they are accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. The entry limit is set at 750 participants.

Electronic chip timing is used for all participants to provide finish times and to assist with tracking on the course. This system is used at registration, checkpoints, and the finish line. Each participant receives a cotton T-shirt and an Allendale Challenge pin badge as part of their entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
