Allendale Challenge : 11 April 2026
The Allendale Challenge is a 26 mile route organised by North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team to raise funds for the team. The event is based at Allendale Village Hall in Allendale Town, Hexham, Northumberland, and the route follows an anti-clockwise loop from the town.
The course passes through extensive peat bogs in the North Pennines and includes named summits and sections such as Hard Rigg, Black Hill, Kilhope Law, Spartylea, The Drag, and Ladlewell. Weather in the area can be as challenging as the terrain.
The event offers two pace options: walker and runner. Electronic chip timing is used for 2026; the system provides tracking around the course, aims to reduce waiting times at registration and checkpoints, and prints an accurate finish time on completion. Entry is limited to 750 participants. The published entry fee is £44.00 plus a 6% booking fee. The entry package includes a premium quality cotton T-shirt and an Allendale Challenge pin badge. Minimum age is 18 years, or 14 years if accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
New entries are now closed; limited on-the-day entries may be available. The event has a history of being popular and selling out in previous years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
